This position is responsible for the operational management of US and non-US benefits programs, policies, and initiatives. Oversees market and internal analytics and research. Supports the benefits philosophy and strategy development in a collaborative way, and is responsible for the evaluation of the organizations initiatives and current programs and their alignment to the philosophy, budget and external market.


  • Supports benefit initiatives in new countries, and manages and reviews current programs in existing countries.
  • Implements new or modified benefit plans and policies, and supervises the administration of existing plans and processes.
  • Identifies and leads innovation and process improvements that support the organizations growth, efficiencies, and capability enhancement.
  • Assists with vendor relations and service levels and builds trust and share information with internal customers and team members.
  • Ensures compliance of benefit plans with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in a way that is aligned with Vertexs philosophies and budget.
  • Provides day to day oversight on the administration of the organizations benefits program including health & welfare benefits, 401(k) plan, leaves of absence, wellness program, workers compensation and executive benefits, and others.
  • Oversees the organizations Wellness program and advocate for a culture of health.
  • Ensures there is connection and integration between the wellness program and other benefit programs such as the health plans, corporate giving, etc. Develop and communicate success criteria for the wellness program.
  • May lead the annual benefit renewals and US open enrollment process and ensure that plan design changes are aligned with budget, applicable mandates such as the ACA, and the Vertex benefit philosophy.
  • Assists with vendor relations and ensure timely, accurate, compliant delivery of services. Ensure service levels are achieved and/or action plans developed and implemented to address deficiencies.
  • Evaluates and compares existing company benefits with the market, surveys, and other sources of information in order to maintain companys competitive position in the market. Participate in area and industry surveys as needed.
  • Drives and analyzes internal and external data analytics to support and shape business decision making.
  • Assists with the benefits communication strategy and deliverables in a way that is innovative, clear and supports employee mobility. Develops and implements plans to deliver communication that leverages different channels and meets the strategy objectives.
  • Handles escalation of benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Build trust with internal customers and team members.
  • Oversees billing and funding of benefit programs, ensuring timely and accurate payment.
  • Partners with Financial Reporting to ensure accurate reporting of benefit costs for budgeting purposes. Analyze and reforecast the annual benefits budget.
  • Works with counsel and consultants to review, prepare and execute all benefit plans and processes to ensure compliance with Department of Labor, ERISA, IRS, etc.
  • Supports merger & acquisition activities by collaborating with different stakeholders and work centers.
  • Analyzes country-specific culture, programs, policies, trends, labor market and legislations that would help develop competitive, flexible and compliant country-specific programs that feature a degree of consistency but allow flexibility and differentiation that will attract, retain and reward employees.
  • In partnership with consultants, provide support to international employees.
  • Provide specialized support, ongoing training and direction to other HR team members.
  • Participate in other projects or duties as assigned.


  • Experience in benefit plan design, strategy and administration.

  • Maintains awareness of current trends and legal issues in benefits. Through classes and reading, continuously increases compensation and benefits knowledge.


  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or Human Resources.
  • Six (6) plus years of experience in Benefits Administration.
  • Three (3) plus years of experience in international benefits required.
  • Benefits (CEBS or other) and/or Human Resources (PHR/SPHR) certification preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
