Job Description

What Youll Be Doing in the role of Paralegal:

Provide legal support and partner with teams across Susan G. Komen including marketing, finance, mission, and development. Paralegal support includes drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts under attorney supervision; effectively communicating and building strong relationships with internal clients in order to understand business objectives and identify issues to assist attorneys in providing value-added solutions; track and manage contract negotiations under attorney supervision; and assist with other projects in support of the legal department objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage contract workflow and lifecycle form contract selection, contract negotiation and execution, amendment, termination, and retention for various departments.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate various agreements (including cause related marketing agreements, sponsorship agreements, match agreements, marketing agreements, partnership agreements, service agreements, event agreements, grant agreements, intellectual property license agreements, and confidentiality agreements), as well as help to simplify existing contracting processes.
  • Track contract details and phases until contract execution while continuously communicating progress to internal clients.
  • Assist with managing organizations intellectual property portfolio and advise cross-functional teams on matters related to clearance, prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement.
  • Review advertising and collateral materials for compliance with applicable laws and corporate policies (content clearance, intellectual property clearance, and escalate as appropriate).
  • Assist with administration of organizations planned gifts, estates, and trusts, and other beneficiary.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of paralegal or other comparable experience within a law firm or legal department, with a heavy emphasis on contracts law.
  • Education: Minimum of Associates degree or vocational or technical school degree. Experience may be substituted for some of the education experience.

Preferred Qualification:

  • In-house legal department experience.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating the legal terms of a broad range of contracts.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently, but also collaboratively with colleagues across the organization, and handle conflicts, solve problems and/or propose solutions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Client and service oriented.
  • Works well in a collaborative team environment.
