Writing Tutor – Part Time

Job Description

At Pearson and within Smarthinking, we work to facilitate a culture of professional reflection and consistent quality among our teams of tutors. Tutors can work from any location with computer and Internet access.

Each term (spring, summer, fall) tutors have a set weekly schedule—typically between 8-19 hours per week—based on their scheduling preferences. The tutor hiring timeline is largely as follows: screening and hiring in June; tutor training in July/August; fall schedules set in July/August; fall term shifts begin in September.

The position is open to applicants in any state, and hourly rates, while generally between $10.35 and $12.00 may vary depending on a location’s minimum wage. The anticipated starting hourly wage for Colorado-based individuals expressing interest in this position is $ 10.35. This position is not eligible to participate in an incentive program.

Qualifications:

To qualify, individuals must have teaching/tutoring experience in English/writing or the humanities and an ability to communicate effectively in an online setting.

The ideal candidate will have training and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: MA or PhD coursework or degree in rhetoric, composition, literature, and/or English education; specialty coursework, degree, or teaching/tutoring experience in English as a Second Language (ESL); and/or teaching experience in developmental and first-year English composition courses.   • This is a remote position that will require tutors to work out of a location with reliable access to a computer and Internet.
